DELight Laser

The “DELight ” laser is used to remove the decayed part of a tooth and remove as little healthy tooth as possible. It does not have the annoying vibration associated with a drill.

About 80%-90% of the time, no anesthetic is required (NO SHOT!). There is occasionally a mild discomfort experienced that most report is far better than having a shot and the drill used.

A laser is an instrument that produces a very narrow, intense beam of light energy that may or may not be visible to the human eye. The laser will significantly improve a patients’ comfort in the dental chair. This is do to the fact that it does not cause heat or vibration in the mouth. Instead of a drill, a cool-water spray is used with the laser light to remove tissue without generating any heat. These water droplets become laser-energized water particles that remove the enamel of the tooth and decay. By using the laser for these procedures, the patient will not need anesthetic for most of procedures. Therefore, you will not have that “fat lip” or numbness that is associated with local anesthesia. It is very beneficial when used on children as they will often need no injections, hear no whine of the drill, and will feel no vibrations that we usually associate with having decay removed and restorations placed.

We use 4 different lasers for 4 different main purposes.
1. The “DIAGNOdent” is used to detect hidden cavities.
2. The HOYA Con Bio “DELight” is used to remove decay
3. The HOYA Con Bio “DIODent II” is used for multiple soft tissue surgical procedures.
4. Low Level Lasers have been proven to have a beneficial biological effect.
