Crowns
Crowns are like a thimble that is cemented or bonded to a tooth that has been made smaller in size. They are custom made in a dental laboratory and take two appointments to complete. Crowns are made of different material. On the front tooth, we prefer to use all porcelain crowns. They best match the shade of natural teeth and do not have the dark line at the edge of the gum. Porcelain crowns look more natural.
As we go to the back teeth, we more often use porcelain fused to gold crowns. These are thimbles covered with porcelain. These give good natural tooth color with more strength.
On the back molars, we prefer to use gold crowns, especially for someone who grinds their teeth. They have the greatest strength and the best longevity.
